Referee Information

From Referee Administrator:

We really need parents to give serious consideration to becoming a referee, your children will thank you.
With people aging out of the program or moving, the numbers of available referees can change significantly and unpredictably.

There are plenty of slots 8U and 10U slots that can be filled by untrained volunteers. That's right, you do not need prior experience to referee the lower divisions. These divisions are about fun, respect, and learning very basic rules.  Ideally there should be 2 adults on each team who are trained referees. We depend on our coaches for so much, refereeing the game shouldn’t be one of them. Refereeing is also a great way to give back for those who only have an hour or two available on Saturdays.

The AYSO referees are volunteers, parents and youth (+12), who have stepped forward and have taken the referee training. AYSO depends on volunteers to create the fun, fair and safe environment our children enjoy and deserve. This dependance on volunteers means we take referee abuse very seriously. We have a zero tolerance policy on any verbal confrontation and we will ban anyone who cannot abide by this policy.

AYSO is also an active advocate on a National front to end Referee Abuse in sports. The organization has adopted U.S. Soccer Policy 531-9 witch states: "Misconduct Toward Game Officials in Amateur Matches Effective March, 2025. Misconduct against Referees may occur before, during, and/or after the match, specifically when the Referee arrives at and/or departs the venue. Misconduct may occur also at later times when directly related to duties of a match affiliated with U.S. Soccer or its Organizational Members."
In short: RESPECT THE CALL
